WINE TASTERS OF NAPLES EVENT

NAPLES, Fla., Feb 21 – The Wine Tasters of Naples will host its second annual charity event, titled “Some Decanted Evening”, April 9, 6 P.M. at The Players Club at Lely.  The theme of the event will be island-inspired and include wine tasting, dinner, live music featuring local Naples talent, and a live and silent auction.  Admission fee is $85 per person and is open to current members and guests as well as all residents of the community.  Checks can be made payable to The Community Foundation of Collier County and mailed to Dan Leaman, Wine Tasters president, 5637 Whisperwood Blvd. #601, Naples, FL  34110.

Proceeds will benefit Youth Haven, St. Matthew’s House and The Shelter for Abused Women and Children.  Youth Haven is Collier County’s only residential emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected children.  They provide child abuse prevention and parenting education and support programs to at-risk families.

The mission of St. Matthew’s House is to provide housing for the homeless, food for the needy and an opportunity to change lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined.

The Shelter for Abused Women and Children’s mission is to lead the community to prevent, protect and prevail over domestic violence through advocacy, empowerment and social change.

“I am delighted to be associated with a network of such fine people who have so generously supported our mission,” says Dan Leaman, president.  “Helping local charities and businesses prosper during challenging times, while enjoying the many friendships that have evolved, has been a rewarding experience for me.”

The Wine Tasters of Naples was formed in 2007 by Dan Leaman, which then included some 17 members.  Today its membership is approximately 500 people and boasts of a waiting list to join.   The club’s mission is to bring together people who appreciate fine wines in a social atmosphere and to help local charities and businesses prosper.  The club’s activities include several weekly wine tastings at various local restaurants and a monthly dinner/wine tasting party at a private home, hosted by a club member. All proceeds collected at these events are donated to various local charities.

The Wine Tasters of Naples inaugural event in 2010 sold out and raised over $42,000 for the three charities.

Founded in 2008 for 3 specific purposes:

• To gather wine lovers for parties and wine tastings
• To help local businesses succeed
• To raise funds for Charities in Collier County

Our inaugural Charity Event was held on March 27, 2010 at Lely’s gorgeous Players Club.  We had many wine contributors, a generous vodka supplier, musicians, and over $55,000 in items for the Silent Auction.  The event had over $10,000 in Corporate Donations and a net profit of $45,000 for Charity.

The Hero’s of the Wine Club are all those wonderful Hosts who allow us to use their homes to hold our monthly parties.

Currently there are 500 members, with over 140 people on the waiting list…

The Wine Club gradually evolved in late 2007 when I began collecting email addresses of people who were attending wine tastings around Naples.  After of few months of collecting, we decided to hold our first party. And so in February 2008 we had our first House Party with about 17 people at Charmin Davis’s house in Lakeside.  We had a great party and haven’t stopped since.  We’ve expanded the Wine Parties to include Happy Hours,  wine tasting events, and more recently, Martini nights, cigar nights and whatever else fun and exciting comes down the path !
